Sydney good chances in the Shell Cup

POLOCROSSE: Les Fraser is looking into his crystal ball and reckons there will be six teams with a genuine chance for the Shell Cup for A-grade starting tomorrow.

He lists Sydney as one of the teams to beat along with Quirindi, Tansey, Warwick, Wandoan and Cunningham.

Fraser expects Cunningham to be hard to beat in the mixed even without World Cup player Lauren Cant.

“Cunningham will be also hard to beat in the men’s competition, they played really well at the end of last season with a strong young men’s team,” Fraser said.

While team nominations don’t close to today, the expectation is up to 70 teams will play.

International player Hayden Turnbull has withdrawn from the New South Wales open side with a hand injury but the state teams will include plenty of internationals.

“This will be one of the best interstate series to be played at Morgan Park,” Fraser said.

Play from 10am tomorrow with interstate games all day. Three night games from 5.30pm tomorrow and Saturday which will mainly feature top state teams.
