Showjumping sisters savour sweet Sydney success

SISTERS Amy and Emily Bradfield finished off their busy year with some strong performances at two interstate competitions.

Amy aged 18 and Emily, 15, travelled across the border with their parents first for the Sydney Showjumping Club Championships and then to compete in the Sydney Summer Showjumping Classic.

The first event was held at the Hawkesbury showgrounds and Emily nabbed a fifth-place finish on her horse She's My Mate.

Amy had great success on her horse Sam Brown, winning the 1.10-1.15m championship.

"There were some really strong competitors but it was a great experience," Amy said.

Next they travelled to the Sydney International Equestrian Centre at Horsley Park, which is where the 2000 Olympic Games horse events were held. It was a tough competition with up to 180 horses in an event.

And while the sisters did not place at this event, competing on hallowed turf and riding against some of the best showjumpers in the world made it all worthwhile.

Amy said she planned to get back into competing early next year.

"I am also hoping to go back to Sydney and do some work with world-class showjumper David Cameron," she said.
