'System issues' hit Big W online
WHILE last-minute gift givers queue at Australia Post this week, others are checking their letter boxes with increasing concern following the Big W online gift bungle.
One Warwick Big W shopper, Chrystal Bridge, was left relieved yesterday after the swing set she put on lay-by six months ago finally arrived.
"I was getting in early and I thought it would have been here by Christmas," she said.
Months passed and even this week, Mrs Bridge still hadn't heard from Big W.
"It was getting a bit ridiculous actually, it was ordered back in June and they still apparently hadn't received it," she said. "In the meantime I'd started finding other presents for my kids for Christmas.
"Big W couldn't tell me when the swing set would arrive, so I worked on the fact it wouldn't be here before Christmas.
"They told me they would call me as soon as they got it in the store."
After the Daily News enquired yesterday, Mrs Bridge called Big W again and was informed that the swing set had in fact arrived.
"If I hadn't have called them I don't think I would have the gift before Christmas," she said.
Others haven't been so lucky, with Big W confirming 700 customers had only received part of their order, or none at all after the online toy sale this year.
"We acknowledge that there have been issues around fulfilling complete orders for about 700 customers," a spokeswoman for Big W told the Courier Mail.
"This is the first time we have offered online lay-by and there have been system issues that we will work to resolve to ensure this does not occur again."
Warwick Big W Distribution Centre manager Stephen Gray said the local centre didn't look after online items.
"They come out of third party logistics in Sydney, so it's not out of us," he said.
Meanwhile, work at the Warwick Big W DC has gone into overdrive to prepare for Boxing Day sales.
Manager Stephen Gray said close to 450 people were working to send out the sale items.
"It's just crazy, we're going through record volumes so it's been good," he said.
"We've just got to hang on for another couple of days. We've been picking our products for the Boxing Day sales these past two days and that includes packing and dispatching.
"It's one of the biggest days for the DC, but we have lots of school and uni kids coming back to help which is great."
