T20 century helps secure title

BRENDAN Iles scored his first century in a Twenty20 game to win his second successive top all-rounder award at the Warwick Supa IGA Australia Day Cricket Carnival at the weekend.

Iles scored 101 and 35 with the bat and took 5-22 off his five overs in the first three games of the carnival.

His performances with bat and ball in the past two years have been a factor in Badzy's Bandits winning seven successive carnival games before going down in a semi to Maryvale Condy on Sunday.

"We beat Maryvale Condy last year, so if we draw them again next year it will be a serious game to decide which team is best," Iles said.

This year, playing in the Australia Day Carnival was a bit more comfortable for Iles.

"Last year I played with a broken finger and went in for surgery the next day," he said.

He is currently happy with his form in club and carnival cricket and is now focused on helping to keep Colts in the top-four so they can play off for the A-grade premiership in Warwick this season.

The 2012 carnival finished with the re-introduction of a ball-throwing competition made famous more than two decades ago by Malcolm Beattie.

Criterion Marbucks all rounder Greg Louis was the winner with a throw of 87m.

Awards were based on performances in the first three games of the carnival and from information provided on completed score- sheets.
