T20 is a tough gig, even if a Test player

Opinion with Gerard Walsh

THERE are few tougher sports than cricket, T20 style. Playing Test cricket doesn't mean an automatic spot in a Big Bash team.

Three Queensland batsmen with Test experience - Joe Burns, Matthew Renshaw and Marnus Labuschagne - have been in and out of the Brisbane Heat this season and the side doesn't rotate batsmen.

Warwick paceman Mark Steketee only had two opportunities, eight overs at the most, and is out of the match day team. One hopes he gets another opportunity within the next week as he has proved to be one of the best bowlers for the Heat/Queensland Bulls in the past year or two.

Vale Ron

FEW people have contributed as much to motorsport on the Granite Belt as the late Ron Wilson. I've heard a lot about Ron's long years of voluntary work at Carnell Raceway.

While Warwick might claim to be a motorsport hub, the amount of money earnt for this area by Carnell Raceway should not be underestimated.

Ron Wilson will definitely be missed in Stanthorpe and Warwick motorsport circles.

TAB meeting

THE Warwick Cowboys Rugby League Football Club race cay on January 19 is a TAB meeting, which will mean better and more horses.

Prizemoney for a TAB meeting is double a regular Warwick Turf Club meeting.

My money is on Mitch Watson in the footballers' footrace.

It is a busy two months for the Cowboys with the Brisbane Broncos in town for a game against Souths Logan on February 16. At Warwick and District JRL mini carnival before the NRL pre-season game, Broncos players will help out in junior games for U7s-U10s and girls' games U12s-U18s.
