T20 match-up at Slade Park on Saturday
CRICKET: Inglewood will play Redbacks in the match of the day in T20 cricket at Mayhew Oval on Saturday.
Four games will be played, two at Mayhew Oval and two at Slade Park.
Inglewood and Redbacks are battling it out for a top-four spot in A-grade in the 40-over competition with fourth playing off for the A-grade premiership. They are drawn to meet in T20 on Saturday.
This season, a separate T20 competition is being played on representative cricket weekends.
Inglewood will be without the Campbell brothers, Nick and Lachlan, after both played at the weekend.
Lachlan was home from Townsville and played his first game for three years in the loss to Wheatvale on Saturday.
Inglewood president Jeremy Ralph said he expected star batsmen Shane Hooper, Garth Miller and Tim Sutton to return for the T20 game.
"We have a win against Allora and loss to Maryvale so far in T20 so want a win as we would love to make the semis,” he said.
Ralph is not underestimating the Redbacks combination.
"Coen Slatter and Tyhe Clarkson batted well against us in a 40-over game at Inglewood,” Ralph said.
"We have one win and one loss against Redbacks this season but this will be the first time we meet them on turf.
"The Inglewood team has had plenty of success at Mayhew Oval, including a reserve-grade grand final win.
"If we are to win, Ted Callaghan will need to bowl well. He is easing himself back into cricket after a hand injury. We are hoping work commitments will allow Scott Beard to be our pinch hitter in the middle order.”
All round one games were washed out and will be replayed this weekend. Each team will end up playing three games in the competition unless wet weather intervenes again.
Inglewood and Redbacks will play in the early game at Mayhew Oval on Saturday at 10am.
In the late game, Maryvale Condamine is unbeaten in all cricket this season and will play Allora. The two sides met in 40-over cricket at the weekend with Maryvale easy winners.
Warwick Hotel Colts will play Sovereign Animals in the 10am game at Slade Park on Saturday and will be aiming to maintain their top form against a team which includes two of the young guns of Warwick cricket, Caleb King and Cahal Davis, who each took three wickets at the weekend.
In the 1pm game on Saturday at Slade Park, Wheatvale will play Railway Hotel Rascals.
It is well known Wheatvale is like a good racehorse stayer, they come home well and going on their form in Inglewood on Saturday, they are priming their form for the last third of the season.
Maryvale is the only team with two wins in the T20 competition so finals spots are wide open. It is likely T20 semis and a grand final will be played on the same day later in the season.
On Sunday, the Commonwealth Bank Warwick Bulls will play Toowoomba in the Davis Shield final at Heritage Oval in Toowoomba.
Dave Walker will captain the Warwick side.
