TAFE still in limbo

APPLETHORPE’S disused TAFE was put through the same process as Slade Campus last year, yet it still lies dormant.

Expressions of interest were called for on the site, but no further progress has been made.

The former Stanthorpe Shire Council purchased the site in December 2007 from the Queensland State Government (Department Employment, Training and Industrial Relations) for $1,202,185.

At one point council considered moving one of its departments to the site, but so far this hasn’t happened and last year Applethorpe TAFE cost ratepayers $80,999, with no income.

Mayor Ron Bellingham said he would look into the matter.
