Take a stand and show support of DV victims
LIFE can be lonely and claustrophobic experience for families living under the threat of domestic violence.
This is why volunteers from Warwick Safe Haven believe is it important for as many people as possible to attend a candle light vigil on Wednesday.
"It brings awareness to the whole community that we are making a stand against domestic violence,” Warwick Safe Haven president Bette Bonney said.
"We are standing together with the victims of domestic violence and saying there is support for them.”
The event has run in Warwick for the past 10 years and the 2018 march was one of the largest, with more than 100 participants.
Mrs Bonney hopes for a similar number next week.
"We have reached out to all the service clubs, like Rotary and Lions, as well as the schools,” she said.
"We asked if they could send some of the leaders.”
In a first, Safe Haven is asking sporting clubs to come along.
Guest speaker Heidi Walters, an advocate for domestic violence victims, will talk about her experience growing up in a Papua New Guinea community.
The candlelight vigil will start at the Warwick Town Hall at 5.30pm Wednesday
Participants will march down Palmerin St to the Leslie Park Youth Stage, where a number of speakers will share their experiences.
