Great Strides Walkathon up for fighting Cystic Fibrosis
AFTER moving from the Northern Territory to be closer to medical treatment, Janelle Adam joined in yesterday's Great Strides Walkathon for Cystic Fibrosis Queensland at Queens Park yesterday.
Janelle Adam said when she registered her family for the event, that she had lived with the condition all her life.
"We moved here from the Northern Territory because of my health so as to be close to medical care in Brisbane," Ms Adam said.
"I go to a clinic at Prince Charles Hospital every six weeks.
"It is awesome to see the fundraising effort in Warwick. Fundraising is pushed more here than in the Northern Territory."
The second annual walkathon was organised by Peter Von Stieglitz and his mother Clare.
Peter lives with cystic fibrosis but hasn't let it stop him enjoying his sport.
"I won most improved for the Redbacks under 14 side in Aussie rules this season," he said.
Rather than complaining about the condition, Ms Adam said she was very lucky.
"I am doing pretty well. It is a genetic condition and I was diagnosed under six weeks of age," Ms Adam said.
"You are born with it. My two siblings don't have it and my three children don't have it."
Officials from Cystic Fibrosis Queensland were in Warwick yesterday to assist with the walkathon.
Mrs Von Stieglitz said the walkathon attracted 100 walkers.
"Cory Fogarty and his mates decided to run the longest course, 5.7km, which included up Weewondilla Hill," she said.
"All the money has still to come in but we expect to raise more than $3000.
"We received a $1000 donation from the Warwick branch of the QCWA.".
The event will be held again next year, most likely a week before the main weekend of the annual Warwick Rodeo.
