Taking the soft option
AS landmark cars go, the new Range Rover Evoque is as big as they come. The reason it's a big deal, though, is because it's small.
Parent brand Land Rover proudly declares the Evoque the smallest, lightest and most fuel-efficient vehicle it has ever produced.
And while making it smaller, lighter and more fuel-efficient than its giant Sport and behemoth Vogue models would not have been a challenge for engineers, the fact that Land Rover is moving towards a more compact and efficient future is a massive shift for a company so synonymous with size and thirst.
Of course, it was an inevitable step as emissions standards get stricter around the world and fuel prices remain high. So the Evoque has become the future template for Range Rover models, blazing a path for the Sport and Vogue to follow.
