Talitha vies for World Cup spot
TALITHA Doro has the chance of a lifetime this weekend in her dream to play football for the Matildas in the long term.
The Wheatvale junior, who has played football for eight years, made the Australian All Star team after playing for a Queensland team which was third in pool A in this year's nationals at Coffs Harbour.
This weekend, the best 40 players in the nation travel to Canberra to try out for the under-17 Australian team for the 2014 World Cup.
The centre midfielder, who attends Warwick State High School, said the 40 players would be split into different teams for trials at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
Last year, she said her ambition was to play for the Australian women's team, the Matildas.
That ambition is a little closer to fruition after another successful nationals.
"This weekend at the AIS is my best opportunity in football," Doro said.
As well as her football success, Doro has represented Queensland in futsal.
She loves both futsal (indoor football) and football and has been offered overseas trips to further her career in the round-ball games.
On Wednesday, she won the 15 years long jump in one of the pre-events at the Warwick State High School sports with a leap of 4.23m to show yet again her all-round ability on the sporting field.
