Tansey beats Warwick in the final of the Killarney Polocrosse Club Carnival
POLOCROSSE: Tansey continued an outstanding season in south-east Queensland polocrosse with an 18-15 victory against Warwick in the final of the A-grade competition at Killarney.
Tansey won the final 18-15 with team member Byron Davison judged best horse and rider. Last week, Davison was named in the Australian under-21 squad.
The Killarney club has held an annual carnival in recent years but this year is the first time for five years it has fielded teams.
Club officials will be encouraged by two placings, a runner-up finish by Killarney 1 in D grade and a runner-up place for Killarney 2 in G grade.
Warwick 8 beat Killarney 2 15-8 in the G-grade grand final.
Killarney junior Jacinta Sillis won the Patron’s Trophy for junior encouragement. She is a Killarney player but played in a section with the Inverell team which was runner-up in juniors to Warwick.
Bridget Shepherd won best horse and rider in the juniors, playing for the winning Warwick team.
Cunningham 2 won C grade with Lachlan Perkins winning best horse and rider.
Warwick 2 player Trish Shepherd won best horse and rider in B grade despite her team losing 18-11 in the final to Inverell.
It was a great weekend for Trish as daughter Bridget won the same award in the juniors.
Killarney vice-president Col Bloomfield said the carnival was above expectations.
“There was strong support from the Killarney community, fans like the opportunity to go and watch their own teams play,” Bloomfield said.
The next carnival in the zone will be at Lockyer Valley in a fortnight and Killarney is again expected to field two open teams.
