Tassie trip inspires photo exhibition

CLIFTON photographer Lynetta Watt has transformed her passion for the camera into her own exhibition, which will run at Nobby's Pepperina Gallery until the end of this month.

Her exhibition, titled "Landscapes of Tasmania" was inspired by a trip she took with her husband and another couple.

"We went around for five weeks in a caravan," Mrs Watts said.

"It was the first time in Tasmania for me but the second time for my husband."

Previously living in New Zealand for 30 years before she made her home in Australia, Mrs Watt said she found Tasmania very similar to the landscapes of our neighbouring country.

"It was just beautiful, you can't comprehend it until you see it for yourself," she said.

Mrs Watt said she loved the history of Tasmania, and gained a real insight into the life of convicts.

"It was a real eye-opener to how convicts were treated at that time," she said.

She said one of her favourite moments was when it started snowing around their caravan.

Mrs Watt moved to Clifton four years ago from Gympie, and said she has only just started getting serious with her photos.

"I'm fairly new to photography," she said.

"It's just something I've enjoyed since my father gave a camera as a small child.

"I love the landscape more than anything.

"I take photos for memories but I also take special ones for special places of interest."

Mrs Watt said joining the Clifton photographers gave her a chance to explore the Southern Downs.

"It's quite good getting to know the little communities and their history," she said.

She said the thing she loves about photography is the chance to capture moments in life.

"If you fail to take a photo, you've lost the moment and don't have anything to show for it," she said.

As the featured artist for September, Mrs Watt has around 32 photos displayed for her exhibition, which will run throughout the month.
