Tax basics to be covered in ATO workshop

SMALL business owners have the opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge at an upcoming workshop, featuring a guest speaker from the Australian Tax Office.

The free session is aimed at business owners who would like information ahead of the impending end of financial year.

The Department of State Development's senior economic officer Justin Heaven would cover a range of topics.

"It is a good session for small business owners to touch on tax basics," he said.

"One of the topics people often ask about is allowable expenses and that will be a good one to find out about ahead of tax time.

"There will be information on good bookkeeping and superannuation and it will also allow people to ask questions of the tax officer, which isn't something you get too often."

Mr Heaven said he had already received interest from people eager to attend but encouraged more business owners to take advantage of the opportunity.

The session will be held at Cafe Jacqui's on Monday, May 20.

Those who are interested in attending are asked to register their interest before Friday, May 17, for catering purposes.

To register, phone Justin on 0407 582 367 or email justin.heaven@dsdip.qld.gov.au.
