Team numbers up in Warwick netball at WIRAC
NETBALL: The Warwick Netball Association has attracted the most teams in recent years to Monday and Tuesday night fixtures at WIRAC.
Association secretary Linda Bunch said the association had 20 teams last season and numbers had risen to 22 in 2018.
"We have eight teams in A/B grades on a Monday night and 14 teams play on a Tuesday night,” Bunch said.
"After the Easter school holiday break, the 14 teams will be divided in C and D grades for the remainder of the season.”
After the first two weeks of the fixture season, Hazzards and Doorslammers are the two unbeaten teams in A and Bgrades.
The third week of fixtures for C/D grades will be played tonight.
Bunch said the association had attracted 30-40 first-time players in Warwick senior netball.
"Some of the mums who are coming back to the sport played netball as juniors,” Bunch said.
"The Warwick Christian College is fielding two teams comprising students and staff and Mumbas is a new team.”
The first round of the Darling Downs Inter-district Netball League will be played at Highfields on March 18.
Coaches for the six Warwick teams are Jacinta Keogh (10-11 years), Steph Lockhart (12 years), Karyn Morrison (13 years), Jade Smith (14 years), Deanna Naughten (15 years) and Jess O'Brien and Ross Newton (16 years).
Warwick is not fielding an open team in inter-district and has instead opted to play in the Queensland Cup on the May long weekend at the Sunshine Coast.
Junior netball has started for the 2018 year, with more players welcome to join up at Barnes Park in Glennie Heights from 1pm Saturdays or phone Bunch 0407734380.
