Teamwork restoring a club facility

THEY say many hands make light work, and it is an accurate description of the job at the Cunningham Polocrosse Club.

After the violent storm tore through Pratten and Bony Mountain on June 12, it was a joint effort to get the grounds ready for the international Test in August.

The club hosted a working bee at the Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve at the weekend and club member Melissa Kerr said in just one day the place was almost looking in good condition.

"We had over 60 people there so we got the majority of it done," Mrs Kerr said.

"David McCarthy loaned us an excavator, and John Barker loaned us some trucks and a

bobcat and drove the excavator for us."

Southern Downs Regional Council workers gave their time to help with the clean-up, and the Ulysses Motorcycle Club also lent a hand.

"Plus we had local volunteers come out and help - we had a lot of support," Mrs Kerr said.

"The amount of timber on the ground was huge.

"There were five trucks running the whole time."

Mrs Kerr said after the debris was cleared, it was clear the fields were undamaged.

"We did an emu parade across the fields to make sure there were no nails or anything on the playing fields," she said.

"Now we're just waiting for the insurance company to come back to us so we can get started on the repairs to the toilet block, clubhouse and pony club shed."

Mrs Kerr said the club hoped to have the repairs completed by August 10, when the international Test comes to Warwick.

We're expected to see up to 50 teams at the fields, with competitors coming from Ireland.

Mrs Kerr said local businesses had donated a range of prizes for a raffle, including $1400 worth of truck tyres from Scotney's Tyre and Battery Service.
