Teen girls charged over racist robbery

TWO teenage girls have been arrested and charged with the assault and robbery of a South Korean woman, while two others remain on the run.

Police will allege the two girls, 12 and 13, along with two 16-year-old girls, pelted the woman with rocks and assaulted her before stealing her bag about 7pm last Wednesday.

Child Protection Investigation Unit detective Sergeant Curtis Zealey said the two girls were arrested on Friday after allegedly stealing from a Coles supermarket in Aitkenvale while wearing the same clothes as during the attack.

"We identified four of the offenders committing (theft) at Coles, near the Kmart. We got the CCTV footage and observed the four girls who committed the stealing were the same the girls who committed the robbery," Sgt Zealey said.

"After the robbery, the lady who was assaulted pulled out her phone and took some photos. We got the clothing from the robbery and we will allege it was the same as the ones in the stealing at Coles.

"On Friday we attended an address in Mount Louisa and executed a search warrant and seized clothing … and two juveniles were held in custody."

The girls were charged with robbery and stealing and will face court on February 7.
