Visiting shoplifters front court
TWO light-fingered Stanthorpe teens fronted court this week after shoplifting make-up and accessories from the Big W store in Warwick.
The Warwick Magistrates Court heard Emma Walters, 19, and 17-year-old Ashley Renee Pinn entered the store shortly before 3pm on August 3 and proceeded to the make-up section.
Walters was observed taking a black wallet and eyeliner – valued at $32.79 – before exiting the store without any attempt to pay for the items.
Pinn was then observed by a loss prevention officer helping herself to $16 worth of make-up and stashing it in her handbag.
The court heard Pinn also proceeded to make her way out of the store with the stolen item, with no effort made to pay for the goods.
When spoken to about the incident by the loss prevention officer, Walters was heard to have initially denied involvement but later confessed.
She declared being motivated by a desire for the product but a lack of money.
Pinn was heard to have spun a similar story to authorities about not having money to pay for the make-up, but she was later found to be in possession of $30.
Magistrate Thacker lectured the teens on their actions and said the incident was a terrible thing that happened when people were not in control of their impulses.
The young women were each placed on a $200 good behaviour bond for 12 months.
