Teenager 'shoots galah with bow and arrow'

A GALAH was found "alive and suffering" with a bow shot straight through it last week, with a teenager today charged for allegedly wielding the weapon used to harm the bird.

Allora Police acting sergeant Matt Shield said a resident reported the finding to police.

Acting Sgt Shield said the resident was concerned about the safety of residents and animals with a bow and arrow being used in the area.

After making inquiries, a 13-year-old boy was interviewed by police and as a result was charged with dangerous conduct with a weapon and taking a protected animal.

The weapon allegedly used in the offence was a professional long bow.

Police also questioned the Hendon boy in the same interview about allegedly drinking rum and passing the bottle to a friend at the skate park at Allora.

As a result, the teenager was charged with additional counts of a minor possessing liquor and supplying liquor to a minor.

Acting Sgt Shield said the Hendon boy was released on bail from Allora Police Station today on strict conditions, including orders to stay away from Allora township unless accompanied by his parents and adherence to a curfew.

He is scheduled to appear at Warwick Children's Court on September 5 for all four charges.

Acting Sgt Shield said police were cracking down on unruly juvenile behaviour, particularly at the skate park, such as swearing and intimidating young children.
