Teenager charged over alleged child sexual assault

A TEENAGER has been charged following an alleged child sexual assault on the Coffs Coast.

Police were yesterday called to a shopping centre on Moonee Beach Rd following reports a seven-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by an unknown man in the toilets.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command attended and arrested a 14-year-old boy, who had been detained in the car park by a member of the public.

Detectives from State Crime Command's Child Abuse Squad conducted inquiries at the scene before taking the boy to Coffs Harbour Police Station.

He was charged with sexual intercourse with child under 10 years and two counts of indecent assault of a child under 16 years.

He has been refused bail to reappear at a children's court tomorrow.
