Teenager has sights on more glory after impressive efforts
AT just 16-years-old, West Wyalong teenager Hannah Seaman can be proud of being up in the ranks with most adult target shooters.
Seaman shot an area of .160 inches from a 50 metre range for the Queensland State RF Benchrest Championships at Warwick's Risdon Range on Saturday. Group sizes are determined by measuring from the centre to centre of the two widest shots in the group.
Seaman said she started shooting at 12 years old, as soon as she could get a licence.
"I just do it for fun, I love beating Dad," she said.
"Dad originally showed me how to shoot, and then I just learnt more by trial and error.
"I do it so I can challenge myself and get better and better."
Seaman has travelled overseas to compete in the sport she loves, and won three bronze medals and a gold in the junior section of the World Championships in the Czech Republic.
"Shooting gives you a great buzz," she said.
"It is a pretty good feeling when you hit the target.
"Warwick has a good range in terms of wind."
Benchrest shooting is a rifle sport where the shooter attempts to place five or 10 shots into the smallest possible group at various distances.
Rifles are fired from rests which comprise a front rest to support the fore-end of the rifle, and a rear sandbag to support the butt.
The Risdon Range held both the 2013 SSAA National and Queensland State RF Benchrest Championships at the weekend.
