Teen on a mission to fund trip
WARWICK teen Carissa Doherty is one step closer to her overseas dream after a successful fundraiser at the weekend.
Sixteen-year-old Carissa and a band of hardworking volunteers held a garage sale at the Baptist Church and Warwick residents came in droves to snap up a bargain.
She said the garage sale had gone really well with people turning out from the early hours of Saturday morning.
"They were really eager," Carissa said.
"I'd like to thank everyone who helped out, they have been really supportive."
Trevor Schrader, who helped organise the event, said there wouldn't be an exact figure on how much was raised for a few days but he thought they had met their target.
"We wanted to raise enough to pay for her flights which are about $1250, and I think we have done that," he said.
Mr Schrader said it was a real team effort with many people from within the church community stepping up to help.
Carissa, a Warwick State High School Year 11 student, said she has signed up for a mission with seven other teenagers from Queensland, organised by OM (Operation Mobilisation) Australia.
The mission will see her travel around the poverty-stricken country of Nepal from January 3-20 spreading the message of God and Christianity.
