Teer ready to slug in out in Toowoomba fight at Rumours
BOXING: Six weeks after a return to training, Warwick boxer Kyle Teer will jump into the ring for the first fight on the TGW and Smithy Bring The Big Fights 17 card on Saturday.
The boxer they call Tank has had a break of 16 months but is back to fight Gav Hornery at 6.10pm this Saturday at Rumours in Toowoomba.
Teer said while Hornery would debut as a professional, he was known as a pretty good amateur.
"He will have home ring advantage as he is from Smithy's Gym and they are the organisers,” Teer said.
"I will feel like the outsider in this fight.”
Teer travels to Toowoomba once a week to train under Craig Monagle but does fitness work in between in Warwick with Chris Fox and fellow boxers at the Warwick Boxing Club gym.
In pre-fight promotion, promoter Brendan Smith described Teer "as honest as they come”.
The promotional package on the fight suggested Teer could fight in a phone box as he isn't averse to standing in one spot and going punch for punch with his opponent.
"I don't mind a slugfest, I want to rough him up a bit and take him into deep water,” Teer said.
While six weeks might not seem a long preparation, Teer is not worried.
"I should be pretty fit after six weeks of training,” he said.
Maks Chylewski is eager to take his fledgling professional career to the next level when he meets Brent Moore over four rounds in an all-Toowoomba affair on Saturday.
The Richo's Boxing Gym fighter has a record of two wins and two losses in four pro bouts and sees his clash with Moore as a possible springboard to state welterweight standings.
The card is headed by the Australian welterweight championship fight featuring Toowoomba's Jamie Hilt and Rivan Cesaire. Tickets from Smithy's Gym or at the door.
