Temperatures set to rise in middle of the weekend

MORE hot weather is on the way for the Southern Downs for the Australia Day long weekend.

With large crowds in Warwick for the Condamine Sports Club Warwick Australia Day Cricket carnival and the many activities around Australia Day, large crowds are also at Leslie Dam over the long weekend.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Mark Trenorden said the feature of the weather in the next three to four days was a high over the Tasman Sea and a ridge over south east Queensland.

"The fine weather will continue in the Warwick and Stanthorpe areas,” he said.

The maximum temperature in Warwick on the first day of the cricket carnival on Saturday was 35 degrees and 32 degrees in Stanthorpe.

It will be one degree hotter in Warwick on Sunday at 36 degrees on Sunday and 33 degrees in Stanthorpe.

Both centres will be one degree cooler on Monday.

The maximum temperatures from Tuesday to Saturday are 34, 32, 33, 35 and 31 degrees in Warwick and 31, 30, 30, 31 and 28 degrees in Stanthorpe.

"The weather will be sunny and fine in the next few days,” Mr Trenorden said.
