Ten horses in acceptances for Killarney Cup on Saturday

RACING: There will be 10 starters for the Killarney Cup over 1500m on Saturday at Allman Park.

There were 104 nominations on Tuesday and after acceptances today, there are 68 acceptances.

Despite the number of nominations, an extra race was not added so some horses are expected to miss the start in two races with 17 nominations. Only 12 horses will be allowed to start in each race.

The one Southern Downs horse in the Killarney Cup is Total Surprise, trained by Garry Schwenke and owned by Jack Brown and Wendy Fouhy. The four-year-old gelding won at Muwillumbah over 1530m in April.

Total Surprise has 55kg weight while the Donald Baker trained It’s All Irish will start as top weight with 60kg. It’s All Irish has two wins and a third in his past four starts.

The Peter Kings trained I’m No Ruby is second top weight with 59km. I’m No Ruby has a third, sixth and third in his past three starts.

The first of five races is at 1.15pm Saturday and the last at 3.50pm.
