Ready to take to the court

THE Southern Downs Junior Tennis Championships will finally be held by Warwick Tennis Association on July 24-25, after months of waiting.

The tournament was originally scheduled in March but was washed out during play.

There are 70 nominations from across south-east Queensland.

Last weekend, the Southern Region Teams Challenge attracted nine teams to Dalby.

In a close contest, the Toowoomba A-grade team of Russell Gerzekowski, Peter Haydock, Annette Pratt and Tracey Blanck edged out the Chinchilla team of Steve Gordon, Charmaine Nixon, Don Bell and Margaret Hazzard.

In B grade, the Pittsworth Tennis Club team of Errol and Julianne McEwan, Roz and Ross Wackerling emerged winners from the Dalby combination of Donna Huefel, Molly Smith Peter Shannon and Mal McInnis.

Men’s and ladies’ doubles were played on Saturday and mixed doubles on Sunday.
