TERRY White Chemists can now add bad breath to the list of ailments it stocks specialty products to soothe.

Orabrush, a tongue cleaner that helps “cure bad breath”, has amassed some 288,000 Facebook fans and had 38 million views on YouTube after a college student came up with a novel social media marketing plan for the product.

Terry White will this month become the exclusive distributor of Orabrush in its 160 locations across Australia.

Orabrush was created by Dr Robert Wagstaff, 75, in 2000. He spent eight years trying to bring it to market, forking out $40,000 for an infomercial and approaching Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Colgate and others, with no success.

In a last ditch effort, Dr Bob went to the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University and asked a market research class to come up with new ways to market the product online.

The student group advised against online marketing, but one rogue student disagreed and ended up taking Orabrush to the world via quirky YouTube videos.

“This partnership with Terry White Chemists shows not only how widespread Orabrush is in the global social media scene, but also how well the product resonates with retailers and their customers,” said Jeff Davis, President and CEO of Orabrush.

“We have had phenomenal success online selling the Orabrush online to more than 115 countries, and we are experiencing tremendous growth globally through respected traditional retail channels.”
