Hard work pays off for 'Dux of Warwick High' with OP3
AFTER years of hard work and study Year 12 graduate Jess Hine said she was a little bit nervous when she clicked the button on her computer that revealed her Overall Position score at the weekend.
Jess was dubbed Dux of Warwick State High School but said she still was not expecting a score as high as the three she received.
"I only needed a nine for my course, but a five guaranteed me a position," she said.
"So I was really happy to get a three.
"So was mum, she called everyone to let them know."
But getting an OP of three was no easy feat.
"I always aimed for an A on my exams and assignments," Jess said.
"I would study most afternoons and on my weekends as well."
Despite her great marks Jess said had not been expecting to be dubbed Dux at the school during their awards night earlier this year.
"It was a bit of surprise," she said.
"We had a very good year with lots of high achievers."
Looking at her OP statement with a smile on her face Jess said the hard work was definitely worth it.
Now that she has been let loose in the world, Jess plans to study a bachelor of business majoring in advertising at the Queensland University of Technology Gardens Point Campus next year.
Jess will move into student accommodation at Kelvin Grove before the semester starts.
"I am really looking forward to life outside of school and to university," Jess said.
"I am a little bit nervous about living out of home for the first time, but excited."
The city will be a bit of a change for the keen student who grew up in Alice Springs, before moving to Freestone six years ago.
But with her ultimate job to work for a large advertising company in a "nice city" she will have no trouble adjusting.
Jess's business degree will take her three years to complete.
