COMMENT: The season to show off the very best we have

THE last month of summer, I have quickly discovered, is much more than just saying goodbye to sweltering hot days and storms.

It's the start of show season for the Southern Downs and I for one am excited to experience the best what each different town has to offer.

Growing up in Brisbane, each year the Ekka would roll around and my siblings and I would traipse off to the showgrounds to go on all the rides and make ourselves sick with all the showbag lollies we would get.

As we got older however the excitement of the show lapsed and our attendance rate quickly waned.

But for rural residents show season is a chance to check out the very best the region has to offer and for each town to showcase their own unique efforts.

From the pavilion entries to the prime livestock, it gives each member of the community a chance to showcase their talents, no matter how big or how small.

From my perspective, it really is such a wonderful point of pride for so many and such an integral part of the calendar year in Warwick and towns right across the region.

Having started at the Daily News just before the Warwick Show in 2015, I am excited to be a part of that atmosphere again and hopefully I will have an opportunity to check out many more of the shows this year.
