The perfect tribute to Andy
ANDY Wilson was a man who was loved by all.
He was known for his charity work, his commitment to his family and friends and for donning the big red suit every Christmas.
But Andy was also battling cancer and sadly lost his fight earlier this year.
Yesterday, hundreds of community members gathered by the Condamine River for the inaugural Andy Wilson Memorial Run for a Cure.
Andy's wife Kay said one of the main people behind the event was Patrick Sinnott.
"We used to have Run for a Cure, but there hasn't been one for a few years," Mr Sinnott said.
"Andy was too sick to organise the last one so I thought we should have one in remembrance of him.
"We'd love to see it become an annual event and to see it grow over the next few years."
Mrs Wilson said she was very appreciative of everyone's thoughts and efforts.
"It was great to see so many people take part," she said.
"I'm really thankful to Pat for coming up with the idea and to the Warwick Pentath for coming on board."
The Warwick and District Country Music Association kept everyone entertained throughout the morning.
Member for Southern Downs Lawrence Springborg opened the event with a speech about the incredible difference Andy made in the community.
"He was known by almost everyone in the community for doing such great work," Mr Springborg said.
"He was very passionate about the Queensland Cancer Council, who raise millions of dollars each year to help those fighting cancer.
"I can't think of a better way to honour Andy's memory other than an event like this."
All money raised yesterday went to the Queensland Cancer Council.
