The region's largest landholdings listed

AWARD winning architect Gabriel Poole designed the homestead located on the historical thoroughbred breeding and cattle property, Risdon Stud.

The famous stud is right on our back doorstep on Connolly Dam Rd.

In the early 1950s the property was the headquarters for the King Ranch Santa Gertrudis cattle in Australia.

The first quarter horses in Australia were also imported by King Ranch and taken to Risdon.

These days Risdon has operated as a thoroughbred breeding and cattle property and is home to Australia's finest privately owned bands of broodmares.

Risdon is one of the largest landholdings in the region with a size of 2348 hectares.

The property is on 12 titles.

Risdon has recently been listed on the market with Wade Real Estate for an astounding 4.5 million dollars.

Selling agent Stuart Wade said there has been some interest in the historical property already.

"We've had some interest from someone out of town that is looking to move to the country," he said.

"The economy isn't good, but we do anticipate some interest from neighbours to the property and even locals wanting to increase acreage."

The homestead designed by Gabriel Poole incorporates the old with the new.

The original 1800s stone building still stands next to the stylish new design created by Mr Poole.

The new structure includes a large gourmet kitchen, fully screened sunroom, formal sitting room, study, master bedroom and four bathrooms.

The 1800s stone building which adjoins the new home has three bedrooms, lounge, dining, and a music and entertaining room.

A reception room and office, part of the original homestead was once the ballroom on the property and has original parquetry floors.

The property also has state-of-the-art barn comprising stables for state-of-the-art horse breeding.
