The Road Trip heading our way for fun at the drags

DRAG RACING: The Warwick Dragway is one of the venues which are part of The Road Trip this weekend.

The event is organised by Mick Apps from Lakeside Raceway.

More than 40 drivers will assemble at Willowbank Raceway from 7am Saturday and race from 9.30am before heading to Warwick for the start of racing at 1.30pm Saturday at Warwick Dragway at Morgan Park.

Apps said all cars would be street cars and travel between venues with one or two exceptions.

One car that will be transported between venues is HQ GTS Monaro called Hanful which has been used in a Super cheap Auto advertisement.

"Hanful will be driven in Warwick by Mark Schwarz,” Apps said.

"For the first time we have a ladies class as part of The Road Trip.

"The Road Trip is designed for mates, friends and family to enjoy a great weekend away tripping around whilst putting down some fast passes on the drag strips.”

"There is almost $20,000 up for grabs in prizes which will be presented after the final racing at Lakeside from 1.10pm Sunday.

The overall first placegetters will receive $3000 courtesy of Glenn and Jill Parsons fromAussie Chlorinators.

"We are also having a DYO Challenge (dial your own time) competition.

After the road trip participants have finished their racing at Warwick Dragway, the Warwick District Drag Racing Association will put on a test and tune to 9pm Saturday.

"It is a chance for mates to race against mates,” association vice president John Loy said.

"It is free to the test and tune, all drivers have to do is buy a $20 racers licence for one day and wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt and helmet.”

All racing for The Drag Trip participants at the three venues will be over 200m (1/8 mile).

The event will mean a major boost for the Warwick economy with all of the drivers staying in Warwick overnight Saturday before heading to Lakeside.

While many competitors will book motels, some will also camp at the track where there will be a barbecue dinner for all participants. Updated points for the first two tracks will be read out at the dinner for participants at Warwick Dragway.

There are strict rules about travel between tracks but competitors are allowed to change tyres when required for different surfaces.
