The story behind the works of art

IF YOU have ever bought a product and wondered how it was made or where it came from, the Meet the Makers demonstration at the Allora RSL Sub Branch on Saturday was your kind of event.

Makers of jewellery, food, dolls and more showed off their products and discussed the process of creating them.

One of the makers was Veronica Clasohm, who has been making dolls for 20 years.

"It's nice to have an event where you can meet people," Mrs Clasohm said.

"It's good to be able to talk to people about the background of your products."

Mrs Clasohm has been making dolls since the 1990s, but it is in the last four years that she has taken it up permanently.

"I was a nurse at Akooroomak and I used to make them then," she said.

"Then four years ago I had open heart surgery and I couldn't work anymore so I started making them fulltime and selling them at markets."

Allora RSL Sub Branch treasurer Kath Turner said she was pleased with the turnout.

"It's the first time we have had the Meet the Makers day," Mrs Turner said.

"As well as talking to customers there have also been demonstrations.

"We've got a lot of unique artisans in our area who produce a lot of unique products."
