Things you didn’t know about Warwick’s oldest band

Rain, hail or shine

THE band plays in rail, hail or shine. Freezing sleet in Stanthorpe or shoes sticking to the meted tar on sweltering Warwick summer days.

Rotunda funded

WARWICK City Band hosted the National Brass Band Championship in 1984 and 1988 at the Warwick Town Hall. Money raised from hosting those events went towards refurbishment of the rotunda in Leslie Park.

Love in brass

FORMER band member Brearne Marsh met her fiance, Chris Barnes, through the band and her great-grandmother and great-grandfather also met and fell in love through the band.

Travellin’ band

EVERY two years the Warwick City Band plays at the Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Festival and also the Melon Festival in Chinchilla, where they perform to the largest crowd of the year.

Getting numbers

IN MODERN times, the band membership peaked in 2006–2007 when the group had between 25 and 30 members.
