This weekend is crunch time for the Cowboys
RUGBY LEAGUE: Warwick Cowboys president David O'Leary is in no doubt this Sunday's games against Valleys in A and reserve-grade are the most important of the season.
"If the players want to play finals, this is the weekend they had to step up as we are two points out of the top-six in both grades,” O'Leary said.
"Even if we win, we need other results to go our way.”
The first of four games against Valleys is at 10am Sunday at Herb Steinohrt Oval, Toowoomba.
After a bye, Warwick will still be without some injured players.
"Injuries have really hit us hard this season. It is hard to find a weekend when we have been able to field our top teams,” O'Leary said.
Warwick needs to win its last two games and hope other results go their way to secure a top-two spot in the under-18 grade.
The Cowboys will also play finals footy in second division and will secure third spot with a win this weekend.
In the final fixture round of the season, Warwick is at home to Highfields in three games on August 6. In A grade, their opponents in the final two rounds, Valleys and Highfields, are in the top four.
With the early end to the TRL season, the Cowboys have their trophy night on September 9, golf day on September 10 and Cowboys Rodeo on September 23.
Like Warwick, Wattles is battling for the top-six in A and reserve grades.
Wattles has to beat Highfields away on Sunday and then Valleys at Platz Oval on August 6 to definitely finish in the top-six in A grade. With one or two losses, Wattles may have to rely on other results to make the top-six.
