This week's best bets are both running at Rosehill races
HORSE RACING: It's one of the most wonderful times of the year to be a horse racing fan, with three group one cards over the space of three days.
At the time of print, the Moir Stakes will have been run and won at Moonee Valley, with Super Saturday at Randwick and Underwood Stakes Day at Caulfield to come on Sunday.
The Epsom is shaping up as a beauty of a race with so many proven horses going around in Sydney's premier spring handicap.
The only thing that has detracted from the race this year is the weight scale. Hartnell is a clear top weight with 57kg, with only five horses out of the 22 acceptors carrying 53kg or more.
Plenty of horses will have to be ridden overweight and it begs the question of if it is time to raise weights in a situation like this.
Another race of keen interest will be the Premiere Stakes with five Everest contenders going around.
Redzel is the class runner in the field but it is unknown how detrimental being scratched a fortnight ago has impacted on his preparation.
Perhaps the forgotten horse has been Shoals. This mare just doesn't know how to run a bad race and wasn't far off a cracking tempo behind Nature Strip first-up.
That's without mentioning the likes of multiple-G1 winner Trapeze Artist, In Her Time and Santa Ana Lane. What a race!
PETER SCHMIDT (SDSP) - D'ARGENTO (RANDWICK RACE 7 No 3)
Has gone through his gears beautifully this prep and is set to peak third-up. Didn't handle the heavy conditions all that great in the Theo Marks and will improve from that. Gets the option to push up from gate one.
NICK INMON (BUSHKIDS) - PIERATA (RANDWICK RACE 7 No 2)
Pounced from the box seat first up in the Missile and was narrowly beaten last start. Should be right on pace and the $5 on offer is massive overs.
