Thong mudflaps? Only in Queensland...

WHEN police were shown this photograph of an unusual method of wearing a thong...this is not what they expected.

Officers from Mackay's Road Policing Unit photographed this vehicle with some rather unorthodox mudflaps.

When they shared the image from the police car's dash cam with other police, Senior Constable Steve Smith said they had to do a "double take".

"Thongs are a great way to protect your feet in the early days of summer, but we have never seen them fitted to a car in this way before," he wrote in a post on the MyPolice website.

Senior Constable Smith said while no on-the-spot fines were issued in this instance, they wanted to make other drivers aware that random modifications or fixtures to vehicles can be deemed illegal.

"They may create a danger to other cars or pedestrians if a collision was to occur," he said.

"Defective vehicles can incur fines. Fitted equipment which does not comply with vehicle safety standards can receive a fine of $126 and one demerit point. This is also a Type 2 offence meaning depending on the history of the driver, the car could be immobilised or impounded for a period of time. Fitted parts or equipment not in a safe condition can incur a fine of $252 and three demerit points."

One Facebook user sharing the photo wrote: "...improvised mudflaps. Best not to do it or otherwise, as Pauly Fenech would say 'they'll friggin' thong ya'."

What's the strangest modification or fixture you've ever seen on a car?
