Three-club Queensland Cup player returns home to TRL

RUGBY LEAGUE: After playing Queensland Cup for Norths Devils, Mackay Cutters and Sunshine Coast Falcons, Dan Murphy is returning to his hometown club for the 2018 TRL season.

Last season, Murphy played five-eighth for the Central Crows team which won the state divisional championship and soon after played for the Falcons in the Queensland Cup.

Murphy said he decided to play again for Warwick to start enjoying his footy again.

He admits training four to five times weekly, along with work commitments, was taking its toll.

"I had some niggling injuries last season and wasn't really enjoying it,” he said.

"I want to play footy with my mates and help out the younger players as much as I can.

"Playing in Warwick will give my grandparents more of a chance to see me play.”

Murphy was five-eighth when Mackay won the Queensland Cup premiership in 2013 and played in last season's Noosa premiership win in the Sunshine Coast competition.

He works as a plumber on the Sunshine Coast after doing his apprenticeship in Warwick under grandfather Cec Watts. He will travel home to Warwick for Friday night training with the Cowboys and weekend games.

While it will involve more travelling, Murphy is keen to play representative footy and is already in the TRL All Stars squad for the February 17 game in Toowoomba.

He is looking forward to playing under new Cowboys A-grade coach Phil Economidis.

"Phil has coached at NRL level so brings a lot of experience to the role and will be a great help to the young fellows,” Murphy said.
