Three from Southern Downs in state team for WA

POLOCROSSE: Three Southern Downs players are part of the Queensland under-21 mixed team to play in state games at the Walkaway Carnival in Western Australia in late September.

Carly Cooper and Anthony O'Leary from the Cunningham club are in the Queensland team along with Warwick player Braydon Beck.

Queensland will play games at Walkaway against teams from Western Australia and Victoria.

Warwick Polocrosse Club president Les Fraser said the selected team was pretty good.

"The Queensland team has a fair bit of experience and will take a lot of beating," Fraser said.

Meanwhile on the Southern Downs club scene, there will be carnivals on the first three weekends of August at Cunningham, Killarney and Warwick grounds.

The Warwick club has secured a new naming rights sponsor, IOR Petroleum, for the Rose Bowl on August 19-21. The event will include a club carnival and six games between the men's and ladies' Australian open squads.

One of the visiting players for the squad games will be Suzette Thomas from Western Australia who won a World Cup with the Australian team in Warwick in 2007.
