Three Queensland Cup centres will battle in Barrett Shield
RUGBY LEAGUE: It is rare in the Toowoomba Rugby League for three of the four centres in a club game to have Queensland Cup experience.
But that will be the case on Saturday when Wattles host Warwick in the Barrett Shield in A-grade at 7pm at Platz Oval.
New Wattles centre pairing Jake Hargreaves and Nathan Gaulton have both played Queensland Cup footy and Warwick centre Dylan Galloway was a long-time Queensland Cup player at Norths before returning home to the Southern Downs. The centre without TRL experience is Joe Fuimaono but he has proved with Warwick he is one of the best in the league.
Gaulton has previously played for Brothers in the TRL in the halves but spent a lot of time in the gym in Ipswich where he made in the Queensland Cup as a prop. On Saturday, he will be able to use his size in the centres for Wattles.
Wattles will be led by co-captains Dale Perkins and Ryan Duggan with former NRL inside back Travis Burns player coach in 2018.
Warwick coach Phil Economidis will use different captains in each trial but back rower Mick Bloomfield will lead the side against Wattles. After this weekend, Warwick will host Kyogle on March 10 in three games before the March 17-18 start of the competition.
