Three in a row for Lorenzo

SPANIARD Jorge Lorenzo extended his MotoGP World Championship lead over nearest rival Casey Stoner after a dominant victory in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Lorenzo won his third consecutive race ahead of retiring world champion Stoner and fellow Spaniard Dani Pedrosa.

The win was Lorenzo's 42nd in MotoGP, equalling Stoner's record in the premier class, and increased his lead to 25 points.

Aside from Lorenzo, the race was also a triumph for British rider Cal Crutchlow, who defied doctors' orders and the pain from a broken ankle to beat a host of riders, including nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi, to finish sixth.

Crutchlow had crashed in practice the day before the race and started at the back of the grid after missing qualifying.
