Three swimmers win events at Darling Downs regional titles

SWIMMING: Scots PGC College student Will Gilmore has recorded two firsts, two seconds and one third in the Darling Downs Swimming Championships for 13-19 years students at Gatton this week.

Will has qualified for the state championships in eight events and will be joined in the team by his brother Toby Gilmore, who will compete in two events and fellow Scots PGC student Tom Winter, who has qualified for four events.

Toby also won gold as part of the Southern Downs contingent as did Assumption College student Seamus Ryan.

Caitlin Skaines from Assumption will compete in five events at the state championships and Seamus Ryan has qualified after his breaststroke win.

Warwick High pair Larissa Vickers and Kaillum Richmond have each qualified in one event. Ben Armbruster from Stanthorpe High qualified in six events.

The state championships are at Chandler in late March after which a state team will be named.

Southern Downs results: Warwick High: Nikki Burraston - best 5th in breaststroke; Kaillum Richmond 2nd in backstroke, 3rd in freestyle; Larissa Vickers best of 6th in three events.

Stanthorpe High: Ben Armbruster - 2nd in three events, 3rd in two events; Hannah McMeniman best 6th in freestyle; Brooke O'Brien best 8th in freestyle.

St Joseph's: Isabel Kay - best 5th in breaststroke.

Scots PGC: Toby Gilmore - 1st in butterfly and 2nd in freestyle; Will Gilmore - 1st in butterfly and freestyle, 2nd in freestyle and breaststroke, 3rd in backstroke; Shona McFarland best 7th in freestyle; Tom Winter 3rd in butterfly and three fourths.

Killarney: Kyle Dumigan - best 6th in freestyle.

Inglewood: Ruby Wright - best 18th in freestyle.

Assumption: Matthew Blakemore - best of 5th in breaststroke; Nicholas Blakemore - 8th in freestyle; Seamus Ryan 1st in breaststroke, 3rd in breaststroke; Caitlin Skaines - 2nd in breaststroke, 3rd freestyle and two 4ths.
