Three Warwick gymnasts excel
WARWICK Gymnastics Club was proud to have three of their gymnasts competing at the elite level in the state championships at the Sleeman Sports Centre in Brisbane.
Local girls Nikki Burraston (Level 4), Madison Ammenhauser (Level 6 under) and India Peel (Level 6 open) qualified for the event.
Nikki and Madison performed brilliantly throughout the day, with their strongest apparatus the vault.
In vault, gymnasts sprint towards the vault table, hit the springboard at speed, handspring over the table and try to land well.
Vaulting displays the power and speed of a gymnast while they are being as explosive and precise as possible. A perfect vault scores 15 and Nikki scored a fantastic 13.20 on the apparatus and Madison scored a brilliant 13.85.
On floor, India scored a superb 13.967 for her routine which was set to a beautiful piece of music called Heart of Courage.
The floor routine expresses a gymnast's personality and consists of acrobatic tumbling, jumps, leaps, somersaults and balance.
It is akin to a fast-paced ballet style dance that is harmonious, performed with precision and in sync with the music. The strength, flexibility, grace and poise of the gymnast is amazing and incredibly entertaining.
On July 20-21, the Warwick Gymnastic Club will host their annual invitational competition with clubs from Dalby, Toowoomba, Logan, Beaudesert and Gold Coast coming to town to challenge the club's male and female gymnasts.
The Warwick Invitational attracts between 150 and 200 competitors from throughout the region. The competition is run in sessions for each level.
If any individual or business would like to support local sporting superstars and this fabulous regional event, the club is seeking session sponsors. Medallions, trophies and ribbons are presented at the end of each session and sponsors are invited to present the awards and will be promoted at the competition.
The third term has just started. Contact the club on 4661 9826 or 0411 111406. The club at 29 Easey St is available for birthday parties.
