Thumbs up to our superbike success
THERE was only good reports about the track and facilities at Morgan Park Raceway when Warwick hosted round 2 of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championships at the weekend.
On the track, Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland member Mike Jones took advantage of a home track to win round 2 of the five round series in the superbike class.
Jones recorded one point for pole and 25 for each round win to finish with 51 points, 11 in front of runner up Daniel Falzon from South Australia and New Zealand rider Ryan Hampton who recorded 35 points for the round.
In the supersports class, New South Wales star Brayden Elliott recorded identical points to Jones to win from track regular Troy Guenther from Queensland and Kane Burns from New South Wales.
In the Moto3 class, Queensland trio Callum Barker, Benjamin Leonard and Brian Houghton made it a one, two, three finish for Queensland.
Barker won the first two races but Victorian Matt Barton, who was sixth overall, rose to the occasion to win race 3.
Motorcycling Australia media manager Andrew Weiss said the vibes around the place about the venue were fantastic.
"The riders have only made good comments about the track and facility," Weiss said.
"There were really strong crowds on Saturday and Sunday. My understanding is a lot of accommodation was booked out. This event contributed to the whole economy.
"The great weather helped, we could be back next year"
He was high in praise of the Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland which was organising club.
