Thunderstorm forecast to end muggy day on the Coast
A THUNDERSTORM is expected to hit the Sunshine Coast this afternoon in a finale to this week's lightning show.
Weatherzone senior meteorologist Rob Sharpe said there was a "significant" chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon expected to bring plenty of lightning.
A low pressure trough is currently over inland Queensland which is likely to produce thunderstorms along the eastern coast from north west Queensland to northern New South Wales.
"The storm is likely to hit during the evening, possibly as early as the afternoon," Mr Sharpe said.
"There is also a chance those storms could go into the early hours of the evening and linger until sunrise."
The Bureau of Meteorology is yet to issue any storm warnings for lightning or hail.
But there is a rainbow at the end of a hot and muggy week of thunderstorms.
Mr Sharpe said the mercury would stay about 28 degrees, with only little chance of showers right up to Christmas day.
