Tiger customers want more Queensland

QUEENSLAND destinations have dominated an online poll conducted by Tiger Airways to help it decide where best to expand its services.

While Alice Springs in the Northern Territory topped the list, Mackay (2nd), Fraser Coast/Hervey Bay (3rd) and Rockhampton (5th) finished in the top five destinations as voted by more than 15,000 people. Avalon in Victoria finished fourth at the end of the six-week poll.

Tiger last week announced it was returning to Mackay, with the poll influencing the decision.

The budget airline's commercial director in Australia, Carly Brear, said the poll was one method the airline used to gauge demand for its services.

"We're a volume business and we go where consumer demand dictates. "We've had over 15,000 votes in total through the voting poll and have been overwhelmed by the support, particularly for Alice Springs and Mackay, which have held the top spot between them for the duration of the poll.

"We are keen to introduce services to a number of new destinations in the next phase of our development."

Ms Brear said while demand was an important factor in deciding on new destinations, other considerations included competitive environment, seasonality and support from tourism and airport authorities.
