Tigers steady the ship after Bulls strike early
CRICKET: Honours were even on the first day of the Sheffield Shield clash between Tasmania and Queensland in Hobart yesterday.
At stumps the home side was 5-244 after being sent in to bat on a green wicket at Blundstone Arena.
The home side overcame the early loss of Mark Cosgrove with Australian Test discard Ed Cowan and Steve Cazzulino combining for a 143-run partnership for the second wicket.
But a mini-collapse, with Cazzulino (63) and Cowan (93) falling in quick succession, and then Jonathan Wells out for a duck, allowed the Bulls to fight back.
Ben Dunk was unbeaten on 47 in a typically hard-hitting knock before Luke Feldman struck late when claiming Beau Webster.
Alister McDermott and Ben Cutting. with two each, were the other wicket-takers.
At Adelaide Oval, ladder-leader South Australia finished the first day 2-260 against bottom side Victoria.
