EDITORIAL: Time for us to ask candidates tough questions

THE council election race is heating up, with more contenders throwing their hats into the ring.

Former school teacher David Brailey is the latest person to announce his intention to run for council and Destination Southern Downs' Tracy Dobie is asking voters to make her the region's new Mayor.

The number of candidates is steadily growing and there is no doubt a few more will come out of the woodwork in coming weeks.

There is such an air of discontent with the current ensemble that we are sure to see a lot of new faces asking for the chance to represent the Southern Downs.

People are keen for a new dynamic and a new direction and it will be interesting to see how many of the faces in the council chambers after March will be those of current councillors.

It has never been more important for us as a community to make an informed choice on our local leaders.

We need to ask the hard questions, listen to the answers and cast our votes with all the information needed to elect a council that will represent its community as it should.

The Daily News is compiling a list of questions to ask each of our candidates and we want you to get involved.

Tell us what you want to know and we will ask the question for you.
