Time runs out for Alex on MasterChef

PERTH machinist Alex Glasson’s nine lives ran out on MasterChef last night.

The likeable 26-year-old, who was given a last-minute spot in the Top 24 when fighter pilot Paul Lombardi was called up by the Defence Force, was eliminated in last night’s pressure test.

Glasson failed to impress the judges with his cherry and coconut Bombe Alaska in the two-hour battle against Ellie Paxton-Hall and Billy Law.

“My luck’s run out,” said Glasson, whose grainy rabbit mouse landed him in the bottom three on Sunday night.

“I actually like cooking rabbit usually, but I wasn’t too comfortable with it the other night.”

Glasson was nicknamed the ‘contestant with nine lives’ after surviving three elimination challenges in the Top 50.

The elimination veteran thought he was in with a chance last night, but inconsistencies sent him packing.

“I thought I did all right, but you don’t know until you cut it open and have a look,” he said.

“It had so many different elements. The assembly of it was one of the harder things to do.”

Glasson tips young guns Michael Weldon and Hayden Quinn as the competition’s early frontrunners.

“I’ve seen what they can do and what kind of person they are,” he said.

“They have the mental strength, as well as the skills, to win it.”

The tradie turned cook is in the process of moving from Perth to Melbourne, where he plans to put his machinist skills to use in the food industry.

“I’m in the early design stages of combining the two,” he said.

“I’m planning on using my knowledge of automation and machinery to try to design state-of-the-art kitchens.”

Tonight, car salesman Jay Huxley faces off against Sydney chef Colin Fassnidge in an immunity challenge.

MasterChef Australia airs Sundays through Fridays at 7.30pm on Ten.
