Time to back the Water Rats women
SPORTSVIEW with Gerard Walsh
WARWICK will play finals footy in the Darling Downs women's sevens competition this weekend in Dalby.
The Water Rats won the minor premiership in the inaugural sevens season and will play one game on Saturday.
If they win that game, they will qualify for the September 2 grand final. The format on Saturday is a bit like two weeks of semis in a couple of hours.
If they lose on Saturday, the Rats will play what is effectively a preliminary final on grand final day to secure the second place in the grand final.
I have been asking for rugby fans and Warwick footy supporters for that matter to "back” the women Water Rats to win the grand final.
If they don't, then we have to do a few activities in what I have dubbed a Ratathon.
Join in for a bit of fun and show your confidence in the Warwick women, email me at gerardw@warwick dailynews.com.au
Athletics on
ANYONE with any interest in athletics has the chance on Thursday to watch the Warwick All Schools Athletics Carnival.
The carnival is for students aged 13 to 19 and is at Briggs Oval.
Well done Ash
WE might hear a lot of bad PR about our men in tennis but what about Ash Barty from Ipswich.
She took a year off tennis to play cricket for her state and now is back in tennis and has broken in to the top 50 in the world.
